Heat Recovery Ventilation

Heat Recovery Ventilation
Heat Recovery Ventilation
In today's energy-conscious world, the regulation of thermal performance of buildings has created a need for more efficient ventilation systems to minimize heat loss and unnecessary energy consumption.

Our Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) systems provide constant, controlled ventilation to homes without creating cold draughts or increasing the heat loss normally caused by ventilation.

Principle of Operation

All homes and buildings in Ireland need a certain amount of ventilation to achieve a comfortable living environment for its occupants.
The most common method of ventilation is natural ventilation which works by leaving fresh air to the building through opening windows or trickle vents in the house. There are a number of problems with this method of ventilation as increased heat loss caused by leaving cold fresh air into the building is uncontrollable. It is completely dependent on, wind, location, potential difference (pressure drop across the building) and the temperature difference between inside and outside.

Mechanical heat recovery ventilation works by extracting moist warm air from the wet areas of the building such as the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms through ductwork concealed in a false ceiling or in the attic space. This extracted air travels through a heat exchanger in the Heat Recovery Ventilation unit and dumps it to outside.

The heat recovery Ventilation Unit also takes in cold fresh from outside and passes through the same heat exchanger and distributes it through the house through ductwork, again concealed in the false ceiling or in the attic space. The heat exchanger in the Heat Recovery Ventilation unit takes up to 95% of the useful heat from the warm air steam and transfers it to the incoming fresh air stream. The fresh air stream is also passed through a filter which removes any pollen or dirt particles before distributing it throughout the house.
