| | Underfloor heating | Underfloor Heating is a more comfortable energy efficient means of heating a dwelling compared to a conventional heating system.
Underfloor Heating as its name implies is a network of flexible corrosion resistant pipe laid on top of a high density insulation in the entire floor area. The pipe work starts from a central manifold encompassing the entire floor area of one room (or zone) and then returning back to the manifold. Heat is distributed by passing hot water through these pipes.
Because Underfloor Heating uses the entire floor area as the heating medium, lower flow temperatures are required. Typical temperatures for radiators are between 60-80 degrees centigrade compared to only 22-32 degrees for Underfloor Heating saving on energy costs.
Using the manifold system eliminates the need for joints under the floor which are potential leaks. Also using the manifold gives independent control over each room (or zone).Other benefits of Underfloor Heating are no radiators occupying wall space, or hot sharp surfaces where young children are present. | |
